Catering for Shrinkage

The measurements for all Sapius uniforms have been calculated to make them look good, for longer:

taking the mid-range height (175cm for size 5)
calculating the length to reach 3/4 down the thigh for karate uniforms, or 1/2 down the thigh for Taekwondo uniforms
then adding an allowance for shrinkage to the length (2-3% for 8oz ribbed Polyester/Cotton blend, 6-7% for 8oz twill weave Polyester/Cotton blend, and 6-7% for 12oz 100% Brushed Canvas Cotton).

Due to this the uniforms will look long when new, but will quickly settle into the correct size.

As the buyer you can review the quality of the fabric and workmanship, but you cannot know how much it will shrink. Sapius is upfront about the quality of its fabrics and the testing we have done when selecting them. The following chart shows the shrinkage we have encountered on various uniforms and fabrics, compared to the fabrics used in our uniforms. All samples claimed to be pre-shrunk!

NOTE: The amount of shrinkage depends on how you care for your uniform, and therefore cannot be guaranteed. Please check out our wash & care tips to help minimise shrinkage.
